There have been rumors for a while that Dell may come out with a handheld of their own and there are still no 100% guarantees it will ever get past a prototype but there is something in the works. Those who have been lucky enough to handle the phone fetus liken it to a slightly thicker ipod touch style device. The current configuration packs a ARM processor and Google’s Andriod Mobile Operating system. Its surprising that Dell did not go with Intel for their processing needs on this one considering the two companies close knit relationship.

The earliest predictions for a possible release date on the device is the second half of 2009. After it has been re-designed nine more times and delayed a few time I think it is very unlikly to see this before the end of the year which is disappointing but I can always be wrong.

There is no talk of what carriers will get the privilage of selling the Dell Phone but it will most likely work the same way things do with thier 3G enabled netbooks do when it is finally released to the general public.

T-Mobile is ready to roll out its upgraded version of the G1 Google Ion phone. Referred to simply as the G2, this device, no matter which way you look at it, seems to be a great step in the forward direction with time and thought going into the improvement of just about all features.

Look at it and you’ll soon notice how much of excess size has been shorn off with the exclusion of a keyboard. Yes, it is thicker than the Apple iPhone but it measures lesser in width. The dimensions allow it to sit snugly in your hand without feeling you’re holding a weapon. You’ll also notice how much lighter it feels than its predecessor (4.09 oz as opposed to the G1’s 5.60 oz). The face comes with small buttons including a new search key all of which feel easy to find and press. The screen has lost nothing of its brilliance or size, so you can heave a sigh of relief straight off.

Try accessing and launching applications on the phone and you’ll instantly realize what a difference the 512 MB RAM makes. This upgrade from the 288 MB RAM is definitely one you’ll be happy about.

Another inconvenience that has been dealt with in this upgraded version is that of manually switching between landscape and portrait views. The G2 can manage that feat on its own now, thanks to the accelerometer which zooms in and out while changing screen orientation.

The hardware keyboard has been replaced with a software one but reviews state that they are very responsive and rarely ever cause concern. This is especially true when you take your time and go slow while typing. Speed up too much and you’ll find your words running together when the space key fails to recognize your fast movements. Predictive text and words add to the convenience of using the G2.

Since the case is slimmer, the 1150mAh battery pack of the G1 has been replaced with a 1340 mAh which reportedly adds up to 50 minutes of talk time to the G2 as compared to the G1. No changes in the camera department either which functions adequately without being outstanding.

One annoying feature that hasn’t as yet been dealt with is the lack of a 3.5mm Earphone jack. Using one involves the use of an adapter. Also, this upgraded version continues to use the same old Android 1.5 OS.

They have christened their joint offering the Netpal.

Both the Disney logo on the lid and the two colors the netbook will be made available in – magic blue and princess pink – are bound to draw the attention and desire of kids the world over. Parents wary of getting their tiny tots hooked on to the dangerous internet, need not worry, as these ultraportables come equipped with 40 comprehensive parental control features which allow them to monitor and easily control the content their kids view online as well as the people they get in touch with via email. Parents will also be able to have a say in when the netbooks are used by making use of the calendar feature.

Available with either a 16 GB SSD or a 160GB HDD, these Intel Atom N270 netbooks come equipped with 1GB RAM, and 8.9”WSVGA displays that possesses a resolution of 1024×600. They are also Wifi enabled. All other features are on par with other netbooks of the Eee PC line and include among other things 3 USB ports, 2 audio jacks, 1 VGA and 1 LAN port. Built-in speakers, 0.3 MP webcamera and an SDHC supported SD and MMC reader form other significant features.

What will make these netbooks a kid’s delight are the pre-loaded Disney websites and user interface. Kids can browse these sites using the many attractive Disney browser themes which feature age-old Disney favorites as well as a whole range of other Disney characters. Attractive 2D menu options have been designed to make the website accessing process fun and friendly for little ones. As they grow older kids will also be able to make use of the alternate Windows XP home edition OS that comes installed.

Both the SSD and the HD versions promise a battery life of 5 hours. The former weighs 1kg while the latter adds about 200 gms on account of the HDD, batteries included.

The Disney Netpal is all set for a late July entry into the market and will be sold via both the Amazon website and Toys “R” Us retail stores. They are estimated to be priced at $349.99.

Take your kiddo to the toy store next month and don’t be surprised if you end up buying him a Mickey Mouse covered Disney Netpal.

We certainly love sent engadget all of the official AT&T slides showing off some of the best features of the coolest new phones that were waiting to be launched in 2H 2009. The biggest news that actually managed to make up the headlines was the fact that AT & T is all set up to launch its new Android device or gadget: the HTC Lancaster.

Up to this very point, most of us just believed that AT&T had a hub in Android. But the fact just kept around us that it was in fact not quiet committal related to making any of the promises – the company had only mentions that it was just look pretty much strongly into the OS as a very much plausible option.

The HTC Lancaster is been worked in its laboratories, and after digging deep here are some of its salient features.

The Piece is a QWERTY and has a Tri-band EDGE possibly with a dual-band options of AT & T and the 3G (which is the very first of its kind). Having a look at the top we can find that it is equipped with the 3 MP Fixed- focus camera which give a very clear resolution as compared to any other mega pixel cameral equipment. One of its advantages is that it certainly uses a Global Positioning System (GPS).

It has a Micro SD ARM 11 processor which can also be called as the first of its kind to use this smart processor. It is also equipped with a 2.8 inches QVGA 240 x 320 touch display screen. One of the most important features is that is has a unique HTC Social Messaging User Interface. But one thing is certainly that even if WiFi is included there certainly are no words to speak about it. This are all considered as standard features of the new HTC Lancaster which are found in very few smart phones and in all new AT&T smart phones. The HTC Lancaster also has a built in auto focus camera which is definitely an added advantage to its features over all other smart phones.

Apart from these some of the other salient features may include a blue tooth connectivity with a USB 2.0 connectivity. It also has a MP3 player and a multiple ringtones. It also has a messaging and Email facility with a Multi-IM Client, SMPT/ POP3 mail options. It has a A-GPS : SUPL and CP support. A video playback facility with MPEG4, h263 and h264 option. All of these an a lot more option in the new 110 grams HTC Lancaster mobile Android by the AT&T.

The New NVidia GPU is knocking Intel off their feet with the Tegra GPU that is offering HD playback with less than a watt of power. The device's CPU leaves the Intel Atom in the dust with a lot less energy usage to boot.

The New NVidia GPU is knocking Intel off their feet with the Tegra GPU that is offering HD playback with less than a watt of power. The device’s CPU leaves the Intel Atom in the dust with a lot less energy usage to boot.

At a presentation the Tegra was used to play a video from their rival Intel saying that a GPU mobile device would not support HD playback. The video was shortly followed but the HD trailer to the new Star Trek movie which played through flawlessly.

The Tegra is ARM based with 8 cores each dedicated to a separate task and when a core is not in use it is put to sleep to conserve power. This technique allows it to complete most tasks using less than 1 watt of energy. Even the Intel Ultra low Voltage processors use about 15 watts and do not perform nearly as well. Here is the breakdown of what each core is used for.

ARM 11

ARM 7

GPU

2D Engine

HD Video Encoder

HD Video Decoder

Audio

Imaging

The Chip is so energy efficient that is could support up to 25 hours of music playback verses Intels five, ten hours of HD play back where the Atom only gets 3. This sort of power saving will make your netbooks and mobile devices even more portable than before. You won’t have to worry about bringing a charger with you, just plug it in every night like you would your cell phone.

Nvidia hopes to one day be able to create a gaming platform out of the Tegra although it is no where near Crisis standards at this time. Just to give it a little test they tried out the classic quake and were able to achieve 46 fps second which is definitely playable. The Atom Could Only Reach 17 fps.

The effort is to keep them under $200 and they may be even cheaper with carrier discounts when you sign a contract. Because of the processor configuration they will only support Windows CE and Android which is less than exci

ting but those who have got to used them seemed to have little complaint so we will have to see.

It will be a few months before the first few go up for sale to the public but there are already a few OEM’s with working samples of what they are planning and NVidia is talking to two phone carriers who are still un-named.

Microsoft made the Zune to compete with the Ipod but has no true competition for the Iphone or Ipod touch. There has been a recent leak and it looks like microsoft finally has created a competitor.

The design itself appears to be very much like the ipod touch and will have many similar features. It will be completly touch screen, wi-fi enabled, and have the same sized screen. Microsoft wants it to be some sort of a bridge device between the Zune and 360 so the project has been named xYz. The new Zune will have two models, a 16gb and 32gb. The Software will be windows mobile 7 but have a interface similar to the NXE. Its biggest advantage over the Ipod touch is the ability to play HD video and interacte (somehow?) with your xbox 360 and games. There are other features that are still unconfirmed like the small whole on the back of the device. Is it possible that it has a camera? That would be a nice feature to dangle above the Ipod but Microsoft has been known to dissapoint in the past so no need to get too excited. The new handheld is schedualled to be released this fall and the phone version (project pink) is not yet schedualed.
