This is one gadget that an electronics geek must have. Produced by Chinese manufacturer SmartDevices, this trendy and stylish looking touchscreen internet tablet beats its predecessors in the looks and the specs departments. Let’s take a closer look at what it has to offer.
It comes with a Samsung ARM S3C6410 processor and has a 7 inch touch-lens screen. It also has a 128 MB RAM and 1 GB flash memory. It works on LINUX’s Ubuntu operating system. The gadget can be used in a variety of languages such as English, French, Portuguese, German and Chinese. People needing to store information on the tablet, can do so by using the memory slot which allows up to 32 GB memory cards. To connect to the internet it supports WI-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 7 inch touch-lens screen has an 800 x 480 pixels resolution. The quality of the screen is excellent and can be compared to Nokia’s N Series tablets. Also, because of the size of the screen this touchscreen tablet can be used for eBook reading.
If you are looking to use this device primarily for eBook reading then it’s definitely a smart move. It supports most eBook formats such as htm, txt, Fb2, RTF, etc. The software used for reading eBooks on this device is FBreader. Another cool feature for readers is that you can change the background to black and the text to white; this emits less light and makes it convenient to read in well lit areas. You can also go full screen at the touch of a single button.
Internet browsing is much faster compared to many other devices in the same line. The speed and features offered for web browsing are not as fast as your laptop but for a device with such fantastic eBook reading provisions, this is a luxury.
The SmartQ 7 includes a Sonata audio player which supports album art and playlists. The audio is loud enough but when you increase or decrease the sound the jump is very significant, making it too loud or too soft.
This model also has a great battery life. When fully charged it works for a little more 8 hours while web surfing and eBook reading.
The only problem with this device is the video output. This is not because of a poor hardware but because of the operating system used. We hope that this will improve in the next SmartQ 7 model.
